Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Route 360 in Warsaw

WARSAW, Va. — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a local man Tuesday evening on Route 360 in Warsaw. Authorities say the pedestrian was struck by a fleeing vehicle and later died from his injuries, prompting a full-scale investigation to identify the driver and vehicle involved.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on February 3, 2026, near 129 feet west of Campus Drive along Richmond Road. Police said the victim, Arthur A. Day, 58, of Warsaw, was crossing the roadway when multiple vehicles were traveling eastbound in the area. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene immediately after the collision.

According to preliminary findings, the first vehicle in the area reportedly swerved to avoid Day, but a second vehicle struck him, causing critical injuries. Witnesses described the striking vehicle as a black or dark-colored SUV, but no license plate information could be obtained. The vehicle fled the scene eastbound on Route 360 before authorities arrived.

Day was quickly transported by emergency responders to VCU Tappahannock Hospital. Despite life-saving efforts by medical staff, he later succumbed to his injuries, officials confirmed. Authorities described the incident as a hit-and-run fatality and stressed the seriousness of the investigation.

The Virginia State Police emphasized that the driver and vehicle involved remain unidentified. Investigators are reviewing all available evidence, including surveillance footage from nearby businesses and traffic cameras, while interviewing witnesses in the area. Police said they are committed to identifying the suspect and bringing them to justice.
