SCREVEN COUNTY, Ga. — A tragic single-vehicle crash in Screven County has claimed the life of an 18-year-old woman from Statesboro after icy road conditions caused her to lose control of her vehicle. Authorities say the deadly wreck serves as a painful reminder of how dangerous winter weather can be, even on familiar rural roads.
According to the Georgia State Patrol and the Screven County Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved Kienna A. Lani Wisner, 18, who was driving a Toyota RAV-4 along Rocky Ford Road. Investigators said Wisner encountered a patch of ice while traveling on the roadway, which caused her to lose control of the vehicle.
Troopers reported that after hitting the ice, Wisner’s SUV slid off the roadway and struck a tree. The impact caused severe damage to the vehicle. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after the crash was reported and attempted life-saving measures upon arrival.
Despite those efforts, Wisner died from injuries sustained in the crash, authorities confirmed. Officials have not released the exact time the collision occurred or whether seatbelts were in use. No other vehicles were involved, and Wisner was the sole occupant of the vehicle, according to investigators.
Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash to determine the full sequence of events. While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities said icy road conditions appear to have been a major factor. Rural roads such as Rocky Ford Road can become especially hazardous during freezing temperatures, as patches of ice—often referred to as black ice—can be difficult for drivers to see.
Law enforcement officials are urging drivers to use extreme caution during cold weather, particularly during early morning and nighttime hours when ice is more likely to form. Drivers are advised to slow down, avoid sudden braking or sharp turns, and remain alert for slick spots on bridges and shaded roadways.
The loss of Wisner has left family, friends, and the Statesboro community mourning a young life cut short. Authorities extended their condolences to her loved ones as they grieve this sudden tragedy. As the investigation continues, officials hope the incident raises awareness about winter driving dangers and encourages motorists to take extra precautions when road conditions are uncertain.
