MACON, Ga. — A house fire early Tuesday morning in Macon’s Bloomfield area has left a 73-year-old woman dead, authorities confirmed. The victim, Deloris Barron, lost her life while trying to rescue her family dog, according to Deputy Coroner Richard Robinson.

The fire occurred at a residence on Price Drive. Robinson said that both Barron and her husband initially escaped the home safely, but Barron returned inside in an attempt to save the family pet. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at 1:01 a.m., authorities reported.

Emergency responders were called to the scene after neighbors reported smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze, but the intensity of the fire made it impossible to save Barron. Her husband and the family dog survived the incident.
