WASHINGTON — A deadly shooting early Tuesday morning in Northwest Washington has claimed the life of 27-year-old Nyesha Walden-Hatcher, authorities confirmed. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is leading an investigation into the incident, which took place at an apartment building on 16th Street NW.
Police said officers were dispatched just after 3 a.m. to the 3100 block of 16th Street NW in response to a 911 hang-up call. When officers arrived, they discovered Walden-Hatcher inside the doorway of an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel immediately attempted to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear. Police have not said whether Walden-Hatcher knew her attacker or if anyone else was present when the shooting occurred. Investigators are continuing to gather information from the scene to determine how and why the fatal shooting took place.
