Authorities have identified a man who was killed in a shooting Sunday night in the Adams-Normandie neighborhood of Los Angeles, an incident that has left residents shaken and police searching for suspects. The deadly gunfire erupted outside an apartment building, turning an ordinary evening into a scene of violence and tragedy.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the shooting occurred around 8:10 p.m. Sunday at 2233 S. Hobart Boulevard, just east of South Western Avenue. Officers said two men were standing in front of an apartment building when a vehicle pulled up nearby. Two suspects reportedly got out of the vehicle, opened fire, then quickly got back inside and fled the area.
One of the victims, a 30-year-old man, suffered fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. On Monday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Damon Neal, a resident of Los Angeles. No additional details about Neal’s background or what may have led to the shooting have been released.
A second victim, believed to be 19 years old, was also struck during the gunfire. Police said the younger man was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was described as stable, and authorities said he is expected to survive. Investigators have not said whether the two victims were related or how well they knew each other.
Police have not released descriptions of the suspects or the vehicle involved in the shooting. Detectives are working to determine a motive and are reviewing evidence from the scene, including possible surveillance video from nearby buildings. Shell casings were reportedly found in the area, and officers canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses late into the night.
The shooting remains under active investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen the suspects or has information about the incident to come forward. As investigators work to piece together what happened, neighbors are left grappling with another act of gun violence in their community, while family and friends mourn the loss of Damon Neal and hope for the recovery of the surviving victim.
