19-Year-Old Crystal Pittman killed in Early-Morning Gunfire in Slavic Village

A deadly shooting early Sunday morning in Cleveland’s Slavic Village neighborhood has left a 19-year-old woman dead and a 15-year-old girl injured, according to police. The violence unfolded in the early hours of the day, shattering the quiet of a residential street and prompting a large police response.

Cleveland police said officers were alerted to the gunfire through the city’s ShotSpotter system around 1:20 a.m. The alert directed officers to the 7000 block of Gertrude Avenue, where multiple shots were detected. Patrol units rushed to the scene within minutes to investigate the report.

When officers arrived, they found two females who had both been shot. Cleveland EMS was called immediately to provide emergency medical care. The 19-year-old victim was critically injured, and despite efforts by first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner later identified the victim as Crystal Pittman, a 19-year-old woman from Cleveland. Her death has now been ruled a homicide, and detectives are working to determine what led up to the shooting and who was responsible.

The second victim, a 15-year-old girl, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police said she survived the shooting, but her current condition has not been released. Authorities have not said whether the two victims were related or how close they were to one another when the shots were fired.

Cleveland police confirmed that a person of interest has been identified, but no arrest has been announced and no additional details have been made public. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence, review ShotSpotter data, and speak with potential witnesses in the area. Anyone with information that could help the investigation is urged to contact Cleveland police as the community waits for answers following another deadly act of gun violence.
