33-Year-Old Diamond Rice Killed in Walnut Hills Shooting; Jasmine Blake Arrested

A quiet Sunday night in Walnut Hills turned deadly when a 33-year-old woman was shot and killed, leaving a neighborhood shaken and a family grieving. Cincinnati police say the shooting happened late on Feb. 1 in the 2300 block of May Street, an area that quickly filled with flashing lights and emergency crews as officers rushed to the scene.

According to police, two officers were dispatched to the location just before 10:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately called for medical help as first responders worked urgently to save her life.

Despite those efforts, the woman’s injuries were too severe. Emergency crews performed life-saving measures at the scene, but she was pronounced dead shortly afterward. The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Diamond Rice, a 33-year-old woman whose death has now become the focus of a homicide investigation.

As detectives worked through the night, new developments followed quickly. Early Monday morning, Cincinnati police announced the arrest of Jasmine Blake, 31, in connection with Rice’s death. Blake was taken into custody and charged with murder, according to the Cincinnati Police Department. Authorities did not immediately release details about what may have led up to the shooting.

The case is now being handled by the Cincinnati Police Criminal Investigations Section Homicide Unit, which is working to piece together the moments before the gunfire erupted. Investigators are reviewing evidence from the scene, speaking with potential witnesses, and working to understand the relationship, if any, between the victim and the suspect.

Police are urging anyone who may have seen or heard something that night to come forward. Even small details, investigators say, could help clarify what happened. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 513-352-3542. As the investigation continues, neighbors are left searching for answers, and a community mourns the loss of a life cut short by violence.
