FALL RIVER, Mass. — Authorities are investigating a tragic double shooting that left a mother and her adult son dead Friday night in Fall River. The incident occurred on Barnes Street and has shaken the local community as investigators work to piece together what led to the deadly violence inside the home.

According to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn, Fall River police officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday. When officers arrived at the scene, they found 25-year-old Nicholas Almeida and his mother, 54-year-old Elizabeth Almeida, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
