CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A tragic two-vehicle crash at a busy Cheyenne intersection claimed the life of a 79-year-old man Wednesday evening, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office. The deadly collision occurred on January 29, 2026, and has left the local community mourning another life lost on the road.
According to the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 5:58 p.m. to the intersection of Powderhouse Road and East Riding Club Road following reports of a serious crash involving an SUV and a passenger car. Emergency crews arrived to find significant damage to both vehicles.
Investigators said an SUV traveling northbound on Powderhouse Road failed to stop at a posted stop sign. The SUV then collided with a passenger car that was traveling westbound on East Riding Club Road. The front of the SUV struck the driver’s side of the car with force, causing the SUV to roll over at the scene.
The driver of the passenger car was identified as John Lemmons, a 79-year-old Cheyenne resident. Authorities said Lemmons suffered severe injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead as a result of those injuries. His death has been ruled a traffic fatality, and next of kin have been notified.
The driver and a passenger inside the SUV both sustained injuries in the crash. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials did not release details about the extent of their injuries, but confirmed they were receiving medical care following the incident.
The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Unit responded to the scene to investigate and document the crash. Deputies said the investigation is still ongoing, and possible charges are pending. Authorities also confirmed that no impairment is suspected in this crash.
