39-year-old Ashley Kukich Found Dead on Ice Near Kings Creek

WEIRTON, W.Va. — Police in Weirton are continuing to investigate after a woman’s body was discovered Tuesday afternoon along Kings Creek, prompting an active and ongoing death investigation. The discovery was made near 2856 Kings Creek Road and has left many questions unanswered as authorities work to determine what led to the woman’s death.

According to officials, Weirton police received a call at approximately 3:25 p.m. reporting a body along the creek line. Officers responded to the area and located a deceased woman lying on top of the ice near the water. The scene was secured immediately to allow investigators to begin examining the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

Weirton Police Chief Charlie Kush later identified the woman as 39-year-old Ashley Kukich. Police said Kukich did not have a fixed address. At this time, investigators have not said how long her body had been at the location before it was found, nor have they released details about where she may have been prior to her death.

“This is an active scene,” Chief Kush said during an update Tuesday. “We had a report of a body along the creek line. Right now, we’re just trying to figure out what happened.” Police have not announced a cause of death and have not said whether foul play is suspected as the investigation continues.

Officers and detectives remained at the scene for several hours, carefully searching the area along Kings Creek. Police have not confirmed whether any evidence was recovered or if there were visible signs of injury. The icy conditions in the area may factor into the investigation, officials said, though no conclusions have been reached.

Authorities are now asking for the public’s help as they work to piece together Kukich’s final movements. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to contact the Weirton Police Department at 304-797-8555. Police said even small tips could be helpful as they continue working to determine what happened. Additional details are expected to be released as the investigation develops.
