FRISCO, Texas — A Frisco neighborhood is mourning the loss of Elizabeth Angle, a 16-year-old high school student who died Sunday following a tragic sledding accident. Residents, family members, and friends gathered to create a memorial in her honor, leaving flowers, candles, and messages to remember a life taken far too soon.
Angle was a sophomore at Wakeland High School, where she was a member of the school’s soccer team. She also played competitively on an FC Dallas club team, where she was known for her dedication and strength on and off the field. Her sudden death has deeply impacted classmates, teammates, and the wider Frisco community.
The accident happened Sunday afternoon in a neighborhood near Legacy Drive and Main Street. According to police, a 16-year-old male was driving a Jeep while pulling a sled carrying two 16-year-old girls. Authorities said the sled struck a curb and then collided with a tree. Both girls were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where Angle later died from her injuries.
Angle’s mother told FOX that her daughter had her whole life ahead of her. She had recently earned her driver’s license and was spending time with friends enjoying a rare snow day. In a heartfelt social media post, she described Elizabeth as “a bright light, a fun spirit, a brave soul,” adding that her family takes comfort in knowing people were helping her until the very end. “We will never be the same,” she wrote.
Neighbors said the shift from joy to tragedy was sudden and shocking. Nathaniel Lisotta, a freshman at Wakeland High School, recalled seeing emergency lights flood the neighborhood shortly after the accident. “Thirty seconds before they were probably all laughing, screaming how much fun,” he said. “Thirty minutes later, we walked by and saw ambulances and police cars.” Another neighbor, Sachin Makhija, called the incident heartbreaking and said he could not imagine the family’s pain.
Tributes have continued to pour in online. In a social media post, Luis Ramos, coach of Angle’s FC Dallas 2009G team, described her as strong and resilient, with a calm voice and steady step. Police continue to investigate the incident as the community grieves the loss of a young athlete, student, and friend whose life ended during what was meant to be a day of fun and laughter.
