PHOENIX — Family members have identified Sam Ertebati as one of two people whose lives were tragically taken during a fatal shooting Sunday evening in north Phoenix. The deadly incident has left loved ones grieving and a quiet neighborhood searching for answers as investigators work to determine what led to the violence.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers were called to a residence in the 2900 block of West Woolridge Drive, near Interstate 17 and Bell Road, just before 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2026. Police responded to a report of an unknown trouble at the home. When officers arrived, they encountered a devastating scene inside the residence.

Emergency medical personnel rushed to provide aid, but despite their efforts, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The sudden loss of two lives under violent circumstances has deeply shaken family members, friends, and the surrounding community.
Authorities later confirmed the incident as a double fatal shooting. While Ertebati has been publicly identified, officials have not yet released the identity of the female victim, saying they are working carefully to notify her next of kin. Police emphasized that this process takes time and is handled with respect for the victim’s family.
Phoenix police said there are no outstanding suspects at this time and that investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. Even so, the case remains under active investigation. Detectives are continuing to review evidence, speak with potential witnesses, and work to piece together the events that led up to the shooting.
The home remained secured as a crime scene for several hours as investigators carried out their work. Neighbors described the incident as shocking and heartbreaking, noting the area is usually quiet and peaceful. As the investigation continues, those who knew Sam Ertebati are remembering his life while hoping for answers and justice in the days ahead.
