PEARSALL, Texas — A deadly traffic collision at a Pearsall intersection has claimed the lives of two young men and left another person seriously injured, sending shockwaves through the close-knit South Texas community. The crash happened on January 17 at the intersection of North Oak Street and East Trinity Street, according to the Pearsall Police Department.
Police said the crash occurred Saturday evening and involved two vehicles: a white Ford truck with one occupant and a gray Scion sedan carrying three people. Emergency responders rushed to the scene following reports of a serious collision. Due to the severity of the crash, multiple victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
Authorities identified the two passengers in the Scion as James Matthew Mata Chavera and Gabriel Carrizales, both former students of Pearsall High School. Despite lifesaving efforts, both men were pronounced dead at Frio Regional Hospital. Their deaths have left classmates, teachers, and community members grieving the sudden loss of two familiar and well-loved faces.
The driver of the Scion suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio for advanced medical care. The driver of the Ford truck was not injured and was treated and cleared by emergency medical services at the scene, police said.
