69-Year-Old Elaine Fleming killed in Wrong-Way Crash on US 69 in Hunt County

HUNT COUNTY, Texas — A deadly two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 69 near Greenville claimed the life of a 69-year-old woman and left two other people injured, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The collision happened north of Greenville and shut down part of the highway as troopers investigated the scene.

DPS troopers responded to the crash near the intersection of US 69 and County Road 1036, approximately one mile north of Greenville, on Thursday. When first responders arrived, they found two heavily damaged vehicles involved in a serious head-on collision. Emergency crews immediately began assisting the victims while troopers worked to secure the roadway.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2014 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on US 69 when it failed to maintain a single lane. Authorities say the Camry crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a 2016 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck that was traveling north on the highway. The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the Toyota Camry was identified as Elaine Fleming, 69, of Celeste, Texas. DPS officials say Fleming suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Troopers have not released information about whether speed, impairment, or a medical emergency may have played a role in the collision.

The driver of the Dodge Ram 2500 sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported to Medical City of Plano for treatment. Authorities described the injuries as serious, though the current condition of the driver has not been released. The passenger in the Dodge Ram was taken to Hunt Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash remains under active investigation, and no further details are available at this time. Troopers will continue reviewing evidence from the scene to determine the exact cause of the collision. Authorities are reminding drivers to stay alert, maintain proper lane control, and drive cautiously, especially on busy highways like US 69. More information may be released as the investigation progresses.
