Wade Meeker killed in Fatal Head-On Crash on Route 34 in Seymour

SEYMOUR, Conn. — A serious head-on crash on Route 34 in Seymour claimed the life of a Danbury man Thursday afternoon and left an 18-year-old driver injured, according to the Seymour Police Department. The crash shut down a major roadway for several hours as emergency crews worked the scene and investigators began piecing together what happened.

Police say they were notified of the motor vehicle accident at approximately 3:43 p.m. on January 15, 2026, at the intersection of Route 34 (Roosevelt Drive) and Maiden Lane. Responding officers found two vehicles involved in a violent head-on collision: a 2010 Nissan Rogue and a 2015 Dodge Charger. Both vehicles sustained significant damage, highlighting the force of the impact.

The driver of the Nissan Rogue was identified as Wade Meeker, born December 16, 1974, with a last known address in Danbury, Connecticut. Officers arriving on scene found Meeker unresponsive and without a pulse. Seymour police immediately began CPR in an effort to save his life.

Seymour Ambulance EMTs and Valley Emergency Medical Services paramedics continued life-saving efforts for an extended period at the scene. Despite those efforts, Meeker could not be revived and was ultimately pronounced deceased. His death marked a tragic outcome to an already chaotic and dangerous crash scene.

The driver of the Dodge Charger, an 18-year-old female, was conscious and alert when officers arrived. Police say she appeared to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital by Seymour Ambulance for further evaluation and treatment. Her name has not been released.

Investigators revealed that the crash may have been preceded by concerning behavior. The Monroe Police Department reported that the Nissan Rogue was operating erratically on Route 34 in their town shortly before the collision. That report was received by Seymour police at 3:27 p.m., and officers were en route to locate the vehicle when the crash occurred. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, with assistance from the Connecticut State Police CARS Unit. Route 34 was reopened to traffic at 8:25 p.m. as the investigation continued.
