Christy Williams Killed in West Side Hit-and-Run, Suspect Arrested in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a woman Monday morning on the city’s West Side. The incident left one person dead and led to the arrest of a suspect just hours later, according to authorities.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. near the intersection of West 65th Street and Clark Avenue. Police said officers were called to the area after reports that a person had been struck by a vehicle. When they arrived, they found a woman lying in the street, suffering from severe injuries.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Christy Williams, 42. Officials said she was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries. Investigators believe the driver involved in the crash fled the scene without stopping to provide aid or call for help, leaving Williams in the roadway.

Cleveland police said their investigation quickly led them to a suspect. A 29-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, was taken into custody in connection with the hit-and-run. Authorities did not immediately disclose what charges he may face, but said the case remains under active investigation.

Police also located the vehicle believed to have been involved in the crash a short distance away from the scene. Officers found the car near the intersection of West 73rd Street and Lorain Avenue. The vehicle was secured as evidence while investigators worked to determine the sequence of events leading up to the fatal collision.

The deadly crash has raised renewed concerns about hit-and-run incidents in the city. Police are urging drivers to remain at the scene of any crash and to render aid, noting that leaving the scene often turns a tragic accident into a criminal case. Authorities said more details, including potential charges and court information, are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
