Jimmie Keathen Killed, Woman Airlifted After Crash With Log Truck on MS-16 in Madison County

MADISON COUNTY, Miss. — Authorities in Madison County are investigating a deadly two-vehicle crash involving a log truck that left one man dead and a woman seriously injured Monday evening. The collision happened along a busy stretch of MS-16 near Sharon Road, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash occurred at approximately 5:54 p.m. when a 2000 Volvo log truck was traveling southbound on MS-16. The truck, driven by Jaden Powell of Lexington, Mississippi, attempted to turn west when it entered the path of an oncoming vehicle traveling east.

Investigators said the log truck collided with a 2002 Ford F-250 driven by 73-year-old Jimmie Keathen of Pearl. His wife, 66-year-old Gloria Keathen, was riding in the passenger seat at the time of the crash. The impact caused severe damage to the pickup truck, prompting an immediate response from emergency crews.

Mississippi Highway Patrol officials said Jimmie Keathen suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. Gloria Keathen was seriously injured and had to be airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for treatment. Her current condition has not been released, and the extent of her injuries remains unknown.

The driver of the log truck, Jaden Powell, was not injured in the crash, according to troopers. Authorities did not say whether any citations were issued or if impairment or speed are suspected factors. The crash caused traffic delays in the area as first responders worked to clear the scene and conduct an initial investigation.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances that led to the deadly collision. Troopers will review vehicle positions, road conditions, and witness statements to determine exactly what happened. Officials are reminding drivers to use caution at intersections and along highways, especially when large commercial vehicles are involved. No additional details have been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
