Pennsylvania Man, Joseph Green Killed After Car Collides With Lawn Mower in Berkeley County

CROSS, S.C. — Authorities in Berkeley County are investigating a tragic and unusual motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 67-year-old man Monday night in the community of Cross. The crash involved a passenger car and a lawn mower that was in the roadway, according to officials.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Joseph Green, 67, of Pennsylvania. Coroner officials said Green was operating the lawn mower at the time of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the collision occurred when a 2013 Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Old Highway 6. Troopers said the vehicle struck the lawn mower while it was in the roadway. The impact caused fatal injuries to Green, who died before he could be transported for medical treatment.

The driver of the Honda Civic also suffered injuries in the crash and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Authorities did not release details about the extent of the driver’s injuries, but officials confirmed they were receiving medical care. No additional passengers were reported in the vehicle.

Both the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
