MOBILE, Ala. — A deadly two-vehicle crash early Monday morning claimed the life of a Mobile man and shut down part of a busy roadway west of the city. Authorities say the collision happened just after 9 a.m. on Jan. 12, leaving one driver dead at the scene and prompting an ongoing investigation by state troopers.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash occurred on Grand Bay Wilmer Road near Fort Lake Road, roughly nine miles west of the Mobile city limits. Troopers responded to the scene after reports of a serious collision involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer in Mobile County.
ALEA identified the victim as Trent Booker II, 34, of Mobile. Investigators said Booker was driving a 2016 Kia Forte when it collided with a 2024 Volvo tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer was being driven by 33-year-old Colby C. Anderson of Gulfport, Mississippi. The impact of the crash caused severe damage to the Kia.
Booker suffered fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. Officials did not indicate that Anderson was injured, and no other vehicles were reported to be involved in the crash. The circumstances that led up to the collision have not yet been released.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate what caused the crash. At this time, it remains unclear whether speed, weather conditions, or other factors played a role. Investigators are expected to examine vehicle data, roadway conditions, and witness statements as part of the review.
The crash serves as a somber reminder of the dangers drivers face on Alabama roadways, especially during morning travel hours. ALEA said no additional information was available as of Monday afternoon, and the investigation remains active. Authorities urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information related to it to contact law enforcement as efforts continue to determine exactly what led to the fatal collision.
