FLORIDA CITY, Fla. — Authorities have identified the man who died after becoming trapped beneath a vehicle Tuesday afternoon in Florida City. The tragic incident unfolded at a residential property and prompted a large emergency response as first responders worked to save the victim’s life.
According to the Florida City Police Department, officers were dispatched just before 3:30 p.m. to a home near the 300 block of Southwest Third Avenue following a report of a sick or injured person. When officers arrived, they discovered a man suffering from critical injuries after being pinned under a vehicle on the property.
The victim was later identified as 51-year-old José Raul Roque. Sky 10 aerial footage showed emergency crews working at the scene shortly after police confirmed the seriousness of the situation. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded quickly and provided advanced medical care in an effort to stabilize Roque.
Due to the severity of his injuries, Roque was airlifted by helicopter to Jackson South Medical Center for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of first responders and hospital staff, authorities said Roque later died from his injuries. His death has left family members and neighbors grieving a sudden and devastating loss.
Police said preliminary findings indicate the incident appears to have been accidental in nature. However, officials emphasized that the official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office following a full examination. Investigators have not released details about how Roque became trapped under the vehicle or what he may have been doing at the time.
Authorities confirmed that next-of-kin notifications have been completed. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as police work with the medical examiner to finalize their findings. Officials are reminding residents to take safety precautions when working around vehicles, especially during maintenance or repairs, as accidents can quickly turn fatal.
