Chiquita Woods Killed After Being Struck by Vehicle on Bardstown Road in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Tuesday morning traffic incident in Louisville turned deadly after a woman was struck and killed by a passing vehicle at a busy intersection. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has now identified the victim, as investigators continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic crash.

Louisville Metro Police said officers were initially responding to a report of a non-injury collision at the intersection of Bardstown Road and Watterson Trail around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6. While officers were en route, the call was upgraded to an injury collision, signaling that the situation had taken a serious turn.

When police arrived at the scene, they learned that a woman involved in the original non-injury crash had exited her vehicle. While she was in the roadway, she was struck by another vehicle that was traveling through the area. Emergency responders were immediately called to assist as officers secured the intersection during the busy morning commute.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later identified the woman as 55-year-old Chiquita Woods. Despite rapid response from first responders, Woods suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. Her death has left family members and loved ones grieving a sudden and heartbreaking loss.

According to the coroner, Woods’ manner of death was ruled blunt force trauma, consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Authorities have not yet released information about the driver who hit Woods or whether any charges will be filed. Police are continuing to review evidence, including witness statements and traffic conditions at the time of the crash.

The incident caused traffic delays in the area as investigators worked the scene and gathered information. Police are reminding drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution, especially at busy intersections during peak travel hours. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say more details may be released as they become available.
