Matthew Traywick Killed in Broad-Daylight Shooting at Savannah Target Parking Lot

SAVANNAH, Ga. — A routine Sunday afternoon outing ended in tragedy after a man was shot and killed in the parking lot of a busy Target store in Savannah. The deadly incident unfolded in broad daylight, shocking shoppers and drawing a strong response from city leaders who condemned the violence.

Savannah police said officers were called to the Target located in the 14000 block of Abercorn Street around 4:10 p.m. When they arrived, they found 30-year-old Matthew Traywick suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot. Emergency responders rushed Traywick to a nearby hospital, but despite lifesaving efforts, he later died from his injuries.

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an argument over a parking spot. Authorities identified the suspect as 30-year-old Tyler Linn, who was taken into custody at the scene. Police said Linn remained in the parking lot after the shooting and cooperated with officers. He has since been charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Officials confirmed that Linn is a former U.S. Army Specialist who served from 2015 to 2023. While authorities have not released further details about his military background, police emphasized that the investigation is focused on the events that led up to the shooting and the actions taken during the confrontation.

Traywick’s death has left loved ones and colleagues grieving. His former employer, Vaden Automotive, released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss. The company extended condolences to Traywick’s wife, children, and family, describing him as someone who would be deeply missed. The tragedy has resonated throughout the Savannah community.

Savannah leaders also spoke out following the shooting. Mayor Van Johnson condemned the violence, stressing that disagreements, no matter how small, should never end in the loss of life.
