PHILADELPHIA — A late-night shooting in North Philadelphia has left a 39-year-old man dead, prompting an active homicide investigation by city police. Officers were called to the scene Monday evening after reports of a person with a gun, only to discover a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a parked vehicle.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, officers from the 39th District responded around 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, to the 3600 block of North 17th Street. When police arrived, they located an unresponsive male seated inside a 2008 silver Nissan Maxima. Authorities said the victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and legs.
Police immediately rendered aid and rushed the victim to Temple University Hospital. Despite emergency efforts by medical staff, the man was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m. Investigators later identified the victim as Dion Travis Abraham, 39, of Abington, Pennsylvania. His death has sent shockwaves through both the North Philadelphia area and the community where he lived.
At this time, police have not released any information regarding a suspect or a possible motive. Investigators have not said whether Abraham was targeted or if the shooting may have been random. No arrests have been made, and authorities have not disclosed whether surveillance footage or witnesses are aiding the case.
