FLORENCE, S.C. — Authorities have identified the man killed in a deadly shooting Monday morning at a Florence apartment complex as Deeric Mario Richardson, a 33-year-old from Marion. The shooting has shaken residents of the area and left a family and community mourning the sudden loss of a life cut short by violence.
According to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken, Richardson died as a result of gunshot wounds sustained during the incident. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday at the Medical University of South Carolina to formally determine the cause and manner of death, though officials say the case is being treated as a homicide.
Florence Police said the shooting occurred around 11:15 a.m. at the Oaks at Florence apartments, located in the 300 block of Royal Street. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered Richardson suffering from fatal injuries. Investigators later described the shooting as “targeted,” indicating that Richardson was specifically sought out and not a random victim.
Police have arrested Terry Clark, 21, of Johnsonville, in connection with the shooting. Clark is facing charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Authorities said he was taken into custody at a nearby residence shortly after the shooting. He is currently being held without bond at the Florence County Detention Center.
Investigators revealed that the shooting followed an earlier argument between Clark and Richardson. Police said Clark went to the apartment complex later that day, confronted Richardson, and ultimately shot him. While officials have not released details about what sparked the dispute, they confirmed that the confrontation escalated into deadly violence.
The killing has left residents of the apartment complex and the wider Florence community deeply disturbed. Police have not indicated whether additional arrests could be made or if a weapon has been recovered, stating that the investigation remains ongoing. As detectives continue to gather evidence and review the events leading up to the shooting, loved ones are remembering Deeric Mario Richardson and grappling with the tragic loss. Authorities urge anyone with information related to the case to contact Florence Police as they work to bring full accountability and closure in this fatal shooting.
