James Stewart & Levi Stewart Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide on Greenland Lane

Two people were found dead Monday afternoon following what authorities believe was a murder-suicide in the Church Hill community, a tragic incident that has left residents shaken but officials stressing there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is still in its early stages as law enforcement works to determine what led to the deadly encounter.

According to Church Hill Police Chief Chad Mosley, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Greenland Lane shortly after 4:30 p.m. following reports of a serious incident at a residence. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two individuals inside the home, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Authorities identified the deceased as James L. Stewart, 69, and Levi Sterling Stewart, 20. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Chief Mosley said preliminary findings indicate the incident appears to be a murder-suicide, though investigators are continuing to gather evidence to confirm the sequence of events.

Police emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing, and officials are being cautious about releasing additional details at this time. However, Chief Mosley stated that there is no threat to the public, reassuring nearby residents that the situation is contained and does not involve a suspect at large.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has been called in to assist Church Hill police with the case. The involvement of the TBI is standard procedure in death investigations of this nature and will help ensure a thorough and independent review of the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Investigators are expected to examine the scene, collect forensic evidence, and interview any potential witnesses or family members.

News of the incident has sent shockwaves through the Church Hill community, where residents described the area as typically quiet. While officials have not commented on the relationship between the two men or a possible motive, authorities acknowledged the emotional toll such incidents take on families and neighbors. Police said more information will be released as it becomes available, once investigators have a clearer understanding of what happened. In the meantime, community members are encouraged to support one another as the town grapples with this sudden and heartbreaking loss.
