A tragic two-vehicle crash on State Route 301 in Carlisle Township claimed the life of a 71-year-old woman Monday afternoon, leaving one family grieving and prompting an ongoing investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The crash occurred around 1:24 p.m. in Lorain County, drawing a large emergency response to the scene.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Elyria Post, the collision involved a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser and a 2025 Ford F-350, both traveling northbound on State Route 301. Troopers said the Chrysler had pulled out from a private drive and began traveling north when the Ford approached from behind. As the Ford attempted to pass, the Chrysler turned left, leading to a violent collision.
Investigators said the Ford F-350 struck the Chrysler, forcing both vehicles off the left side of the roadway. The impact caused significant damage, and both vehicles came to rest off the road. Emergency responders arrived quickly to provide aid to those involved and secure the area.
The driver of the Ford F-350 was identified as 46-year-old Anthony Weir of Wellington. Troopers said Weir sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. He was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. His passenger, 55-year-old Frank Sadzewics III of Creston, was not injured and was also wearing a seat belt, according to authorities.
The driver of the Chrysler PT Cruiser was identified as 63-year-old Michael Patterson of Burbank. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to UH Elyria Hospital for treatment. Troopers confirmed that he was wearing a safety belt. His passenger, 71-year-old Elaine Patterson, also of Burbank, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said she, too, was wearing her safety belt at the time of the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, Carlisle Fire Department, LaGrange Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and DnA Towing. The crash remains under investigation as troopers continue working to determine all contributing factors. As the investigation continues, the Lorain County community is left mourning the loss of Elaine Patterson and reflecting on the importance of caution and awareness on busy roadways.
