FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. — The Parlier community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 41-year-old Juan Rodriguez, who tragically lost his life in a crash early Wednesday morning near Del Rey, just outside the POM Wonderful plant. The fatal collision, which occurred around 6 a.m. on American Avenue, involved a Dodge Challenger and a semi-truck, and has left family, friends, and coworkers in deep sorrow.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a big rig without a trailer was traveling westbound on American Avenue and had begun making a left turn into the POM Wonderful facility. At the same time, Juan Rodriguez, driving a Dodge Challenger, was traveling behind the semi at a high rate of speed. Tragically, the Challenger collided into the rear of the semi-truck with tremendous force, sending both vehicles spinning out of control. The semi came to rest in the opposing lane, while the Dodge veered off the road and into a nearby field.
Emergency crews arrived within minutes to find the Challenger with severe front-end damage. Despite their immediate efforts, Juan Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver suffered minor to moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office later confirmed Rodriguez’s identity, noting that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
