ADELANTO, Calif. — Authorities have identified the two people found dead inside an Adelanto home Saturday night and confirmed the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The tragic incident has left family members, friends, and the local community struggling to understand how a dispute ended in the loss of two young lives.
The victims were identified as Tyreek Moore, 23, a resident of Adelanto, and Shyla Powell, 22, of Lancaster. Deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a medical aid call around 9:40 p.m. on December 20, 2025, at a home in the 10700 block of Bonanza Road. When deputies entered the residence, they discovered Moore and Powell suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene, but both individuals were pronounced dead inside the home. Deputies immediately secured the area and notified investigators due to the nature of the incident. The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, including the Homicide Detail, responded and assumed control of the investigation to determine what led up to the deadly shooting.
According to investigators, Moore and Powell had been involved in a verbal altercation earlier in the day. Detectives have not released details about what caused the argument or the exact relationship between the two, but they said the disagreement escalated over time. During the investigation, authorities located a firearm near Moore, which played a key role in determining what occurred.
After reviewing evidence from the scene, speaking with witnesses, and examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths, investigators concluded the incident was a murder-suicide. Both Moore and Powell were transported to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office for further examination and official determination of the cause and manner of death. No additional suspects are being sought at this time.
The sheriff’s department has not said whether there were previous calls for service at the residence or any documented history of domestic disputes involving the individuals. Authorities say the investigation remains active as detectives continue to review evidence and ensure all aspects of the case are fully documented.
