The San Angelo and Eden communities are grieving the tragic loss of 51-year-old Aleasa Ogle, who was killed in a devastating head-on collision late Tuesday night. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS), the fatal crash occurred around 9:21 p.m. on December 10 along a stretch of U.S. Highway 87, approximately 7.5 miles east of San Angelo. What began as an ordinary night on the roadway turned into a heartbreaking incident that has left family, friends, and neighbors in shock.
TxDPS investigators reported that the crash happened when a 2022 GMC Canyon pickup was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the highway. While moving the wrong way at highway speed, the pickup collided head-on with a 2022 Nissan Rogue driven by Ogle, who was traveling eastbound. The violent impact left both vehicles heavily damaged and prompted an urgent response from first responders and law enforcement.
Despite life-saving efforts, Ogle was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Thomas Daniels. Loved ones describe her as a devoted member of the Eden community, a woman known for her kindness, warmth, and the love she shared with those around her. Her sudden passing has left a deep void, and many are coming together to support her family during this unimaginable time. The driver of the GMC pickup, a 26-year-old San Angelo resident, was seriously injured in the crash and transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of what officials described as “incapacitating injuries.”
Authorities confirmed that both drivers were wearing seatbelts when the collision occurred. Road conditions were dry and weather was clear, leading investigators to focus on why the pickup was traveling the wrong direction on the highway. TxDPS has not yet released additional information on what may have led to the wrong-way driving, and the investigation remains ongoing as they review evidence and interview witnesses.
This tragedy marks the second deadly crash in Tom Green County in just two days. On December 9, a collision at the intersection of U.S. Highway 277 and Reece Road claimed the life of 76-year-old Jose Gallegos, a San Angelo resident. The back-to-back fatalities have left the region reeling and serve as a sobering reminder of how quickly dangerous roadway situations can unfold.
As the investigation continues, the community honors the memory of Aleasa Ogle, holding her loved ones close and offering prayers for healing and strength in the days ahead.
