SHOREWOOD, Wis. — A 34-year-old woman from Shorewood was fatally shot in what her family believes was a domestic violence incident that later led to a high-speed police pursuit and deadly standoff in Milwaukee. The shooting occurred just before 3 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, and left two other individuals injured, including a police officer who survived thanks to his bulletproof vest.
The victim, identified by family members as Victoria Truss, died at the scene from gunshot wounds. According to Shorewood police, officers were called to the residence after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found three victims suffering from gunshot injuries. One of the injured was a responding officer, who was fortunately not seriously harmed.
Victoria’s cousin, Ashley, spoke about the tragedy on Friday, July 4, describing Victoria as a kind and joyful person who was deeply devoted to her family. “She was the light of every situation,” Ashley said. “Victoria always had a smile and brought positive energy to everyone around her.” She emphasized that Victoria should be remembered for her life, not the way it ended.
Following the initial shooting, the suspect fled the scene and became the subject of a multi-agency police pursuit. The chase ended in a Milwaukee neighborhood, where authorities say the suspect refused to surrender. A standoff followed, and officers fatally shot the suspect after he continued to pose a threat. No further details about the suspect have been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Ashley used the heartbreaking incident to bring attention to the dangers of domestic violence. She encouraged anyone experiencing abuse to seek help, stressing that no one should suffer in silence. “If even one person sees this and gets help, that means Victoria’s story made a difference,” she said.
The Shorewood and Milwaukee communities are reeling from the incident, which highlights the tragic consequences of unchecked domestic violence. Friends, family, and neighbors are mourning the sudden loss of Victoria Truss—a vibrant woman, loving mother, and cherished friend. As police continue their investigation, community leaders are urging the public to support domestic violence awareness efforts and make resources more accessible for those in need.
