The Cape Vincent community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 54-year-old Scott F. Bourcy, a beloved resident whose life was tragically cut short in a single-vehicle accident late Saturday night. State Police confirmed his identity and extended their condolences to his family, friends, and all who are mourning his sudden passing.
According to New York State Police, the crash occurred on November 29, 2025, at approximately 9:32 p.m. along State Route 12E near the intersection with County Route 8. Investigators say Scott was driving a 2024 GMC Yukon Denali eastbound when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle traveled off the south side of the road, and although he attempted to correct, the SUV struck a culvert, causing him to lose control.
Authorities reported that the Yukon then hit an embankment at the intersection, overturned, and came to rest on the south shoulder of Route 12E. Scott, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was ejected during the crash. Despite the rapid arrival of emergency personnel, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. TIERS, the Clayton Fire Department, and Cape Vincent EMS and Fire Department all assisted in the emergency response.
As news of the accident spread, the town of Cape Vincent was overcome with shock and sorrow. Scott Bourcy was known throughout the community for his warmth, his generosity, and his genuine care for those around him. Friends often said he made people feel welcomed and valued, no matter the moment or the setting. His easygoing nature and steady presence created connections that lasted decades.
Family members describe Scott as a devoted father, son, and friend—someone who showed up when it mattered most. Whether offering help, sharing guidance, or simply listening, he was a constant source of support to the people he loved. He embraced a simple, meaningful way of living, enjoying the outdoors, local gatherings, and the everyday moments that made life rich.
While the circumstances of Scott’s passing are deeply tragic, the community is choosing to remember the man he was rather than the accident that took him. His kindness, loyalty, humor, and quiet strength touched countless lives, leaving an impact that will not fade. In this time of grief, Cape Vincent finds comfort in shared memories and in the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
