According to New York State Police, the crash occurred on November 29, 2025, at approximately 9:32 p.m. along State Route 12E near the intersection with County Route 8. Investigators say Scott was driving a 2024 GMC Yukon Denali eastbound when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle traveled off the south side of the road, and although he attempted to correct, the SUV struck a culvert, causing him to lose control.
Authorities reported that the Yukon then hit an embankment at the intersection, overturned, and came to rest on the south shoulder of Route 12E. Scott, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was ejected during the crash. Despite the rapid arrival of emergency personnel, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. TIERS, the Clayton Fire Department, and Cape Vincent EMS and Fire Department all assisted in the emergency response.
