Authorities in syracuse have confirmed the identity of the man fatally shot on wednesday night in the city’s near westside neighborhood. The victim, 40-year-old eddie washington jr. of syracuse, died from his injuries after being rushed to upstate university hospital. He was discovered outside the james geddes housing complex, where the shooting unfolded. Police were initially alerted to the scene around 9:36 p.m. thanks to a shotspotter notification in the 300 block of tully street. When officers arrived, they found the victim near 317 tully street, unconscious and not breathing, according to onondaga county 911 dispatch reports. The seriousness of the situation was immediately clear as investigators began securing the area.

In addition to the shooting, police confirmed that two vehicles were struck by gunfire during the incident. The damage highlights the dangerous nature of the gunfire and the risk it posed to nearby residents. As a result, tully street was closed from wyoming street to tioga street for several hours, allowing investigators the space needed to collect evidence and document the scene thoroughly.
