Altavista Man Corey Davis Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash in Pittsylvania County

The Virginia State Police have released new details about a deadly single-vehicle crash in Pittsylvania County that claimed the life of 36-year-old Corey Deangelo Davis of Altavista. The tragic incident happened on Thursday evening, November 27, 2025, after troopers were called to Level Run Road, just east of Moods Road. When officers arrived, they found Davis inside his heavily damaged vehicle and immediately called for emergency medical assistance.

According to state police, Davis had suffered critical injuries and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, he later died from those injuries. Early findings revealed that Davis had not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, a factor investigators say often contributes to more severe outcomes in accidents like this.

Investigators say Davis had been driving west on Level Run Road when his Chevrolet Traverse left the roadway. The SUV veered off the left side of the street, traveled down an embankment, and crashed into several trees. The impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle, but no other cars were involved. State police noted that their initial review suggests alcohol may have been a contributing factor, though toxicology reports will provide a clearer picture once completed.

Level Run Road is known as a rural roadway with limited lighting and sharp bends, conditions that can become even more dangerous at night. Troopers explained that when vehicles leave the roadway in such areas, surrounding hazards like steep drop-offs, trees, and uneven terrain increase the risk of serious or fatal injuries. They stressed once again that seatbelts remain one of the most effective and simple tools for saving lives in crashes.

The loss of Corey Davis has left family members, friends, and the Altavista community grieving. Although authorities have not shared personal information about his life, they acknowledged the deep pain sudden tragedies bring to loved ones. The Virginia State Police extended their condolences as those close to Davis navigate this difficult time and wait for final investigative findings.

Troopers also used the opportunity to remind drivers about safe and responsible choices behind the wheel, especially during holiday periods when road travel rises. Alcohol-related crashes continue to be a leading cause of deadly accidents nationwide. Officials urge motorists to avoid impaired driving, wear seatbelts at all times, and stay alert—particularly on rural roads where lighting, curves, and changing weather conditions can add unexpected dangers.
