NEW CASTLE, Ind. — A 33-year-old man, identified as Cody Denney, lost his life late Wednesday night in a tragic motorcycle crash along Indiana State Road 3 in New Castle. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the incident, which occurred just before midnight and involved no other vehicles.
Authorities were first alerted when a driver reported hitting what they believed was road debris in the 3800 block of IN-3. A sheriff’s deputy was sent to check the area and, upon arrival, discovered a motorcycle lying in the grass median separating the northbound and southbound lanes. Nearby, the deputy found Denney on the ground, severely injured.
Emergency medical responders quickly arrived on the scene and attempted life-saving measures. Sadly, Denney was pronounced dead at the location. Investigators believe that he was operating the motorcycle when he lost control, veered off the highway, and struck multiple concrete culverts in the median, resulting in fatal injuries.
According to the sheriff’s office, no other vehicles were involved in the crash, and there is no current evidence of another driver’s involvement. The exact cause of the crash is still unknown. Investigators are looking into possible contributing factors such as speed, mechanical failure, road conditions, or driver impairment. Toxicology tests are expected to be conducted as part of the investigation.
The stretch of IN-3 where the crash occurred is known for fast-moving traffic and can be challenging to navigate at night due to its curves and limited lighting. While it’s not considered a major accident hotspot, local officials say they occasionally receive reports of similar incidents in the area. The sheriff’s office has asked for the public’s help in gathering information and is especially interested in any dashcam footage from vehicles in the area around the time of the crash.
As the investigation continues, Cody Denney’s death has left his family and friends in deep mourning. No funeral arrangements have been made public at this time. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has extended its condolences to Denney’s loved ones and urged all motorists—especially motorcyclists—to exercise caution and remain alert while driving, particularly at night when visibility is low.
