CJ Fiefia & Xylie Hutchinson Killed in Devastating Providence Crash in Cache Valley

The Cache Valley community is grieving after a heartbreaking two-vehicle crash in Providence claimed the lives of two young teenagers on Saturday night. The victims have been identified as 17-year-old CJ Fiefia of Avon and 14-year-old Xylie Hutchinson of Hyrum. What began as an ordinary evening for a group of friends quickly turned into a tragedy that has shaken families, classmates, and residents across the valley.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, five teens were traveling together in a Toyota Corolla along South SR-165 near 1815 South when the driver lost control. The car slid into the far southbound lane, where it was struck on the passenger side by a Toyota Sienna. The force of the crash caused the Corolla to roll and land upside-down, leaving behind a chaotic and emotional scene. First responders, troopers, and nearby witnesses rushed to help, pulling victims from the wreckage and doing everything possible to save lives.

Despite their efforts, CJ was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said he was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency crews. His body was later taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office as investigators continue to review the details of the crash. CJ was remembered as a joyful, uplifting young man who brought energy and positivity to everyone around him — from teammates to classmates to family members who adored him.

Xylie Hutchinson, who suffered severe head trauma and multiple injuries, fought through the night in a trauma center. Her mother shared that medical teams worked tirelessly, but Xylie passed away Sunday morning. Known for her sweet nature, creativity, and bright spirit, Xylie was the kind of girl who lit up any room she walked into. Her loss has left her family and friends devastated, clinging to memories of her kindness and the joy she brought to their lives.

Three other teenagers who were in the Corolla remain in critical condition in Salt Lake and Ogden hospitals. The five occupants of the Toyota Sienna — two adults and three children — suffered only minor injuries and are expected to recover. Troopers said all were properly restrained and noted that speed is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash.

As Cache Valley mourns, the community continues to rally around the families of CJ and Xylie. Vigils, prayers, and messages of support have poured out from every corner of the region. Funeral arrangements are pending as loved ones face the painful days ahead, holding tightly to the memory of two young lives taken far too soon.
