Kashabe Perkins Jr. killed in Early-Morning Shooting on Mobile Highway in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Montgomery Police are investigating a deadly early-morning shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Kashabe Perkins Jr. and left two others injured on Friday. The incident happened along the 4600 block of Mobile Highway, a heavily traveled stretch of roadway that saw a large emergency response as officers and fire medics rushed to the scene. Authorities say multiple 911 calls reported gunfire in the area, prompting an immediate dispatch just after sunrise.

When first responders arrived, they found Perkins suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Medics worked urgently to stabilize him before transporting him to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, Perkins was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. His death adds to a troubling pattern of gun violence in the Montgomery area, where investigators say shootings continue to impact young residents at an alarming rate.

In addition to Perkins, police discovered two more victims at the scene. An unidentified boy—whose age has not yet been released—was found with a severe, life-threatening gunshot wound and was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. A woman was also shot but sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening. She, too, was taken to a local hospital for medical care. Officers say the victims were found in close proximity, though it remains unclear how each individual was involved or whether they were specifically targeted.

During their initial sweep of the area, investigators recovered two firearms at the scene. However, police have not yet identified a suspect, and no arrests have been made. Detectives are now working to determine what led to the exchange of gunfire, including whether the shooting stemmed from an argument, a targeted attack, or a random act of violence. Surveillance cameras along Mobile Highway are being reviewed, and officers have been speaking with nearby residents and business owners who may have seen or heard critical details.
