DALLAS, TEXAS — A beloved Dallas entrepreneur, 53-year-old Jaime Alejandro Rokkett, was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon inside his business, Cookies ’N Smoothies, at The Shops at RedBird. Police have arrested 43-year-old Rashonda Lowe in connection with the deadly shooting, describing the act as targeted and not random.
According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to the 3600 block of West Camp Wisdom Road around 4:00 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Rokkett suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Dallas Fire-Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene. His identity was later confirmed by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A probable cause affidavit reveals that Lowe entered the cookie shop and engaged in a conversation with Rokkett that lasted nearly an hour. Surveillance footage showed her pulling a handgun, firing at Rokkett, and then leaping over the counter to shoot him again at close range. She fled through a mall exit and drove off in an SUV, leaving the weapon behind.
Lowe later turned herself in to Arlington Police. She was taken into custody by Dallas authorities and charged with murder. During an interview, she reportedly referred to the incident as a “domestic situation with her ex,” though it is unclear if she was speaking specifically about Rokkett. Investigators are also looking into claims made by Rokkett’s wife, who told police that Lowe had been harassing her husband and that a restraining order had previously been filed.
Mall management issued a statement expressing condolences and emphasizing that the attack was not a random act. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred… This was an isolated, targeted event involving individuals known to each other,” the statement read. They also reassured the public of their ongoing commitment to mall safety, which includes 24/7 patrols and surveillance.
U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett shared her condolences on social media, saying, “My heart is with the loved ones of the victim, and I’m grateful to law enforcement for acting quickly.” The Dallas Police Department continues to investigate and encourages anyone with more information to come forward.
Rokkett, known in the community as “Mr. Jay,” was widely respected for his entrepreneurial spirit and mentorship. His death has left a deep void in the community he served and inspired.
